Senior Thesis

Thesis Project

The Senior Thesis is Mt. Bethel Christian Academy's academic capstone project in which all students who graduate from MBCA must participate. As a graduation requirement, we emphasize the need for students to write well, think well, and speak well by the end of their time here. Students work towards these goals throughout their time at MBCA, and this project represents the culmination of years of work and preparation.

The thesis is comprised of a year-long research project that is completed in the student’s Senior Rhetoric course. In this class, students engage in the fundamentals of argument structure, research synthesis, and artful delivery through oral presentations. To this end, students complete a ten- page research paper centered on a topic of their choice that they spend the year researching, writing, and practicing speaking. At the end of the year, students give a 20-minute presentation in front of an audience of their peers and a panel of judges, and then they have a 15-minute Q&A round in which they defend their position.

This project encourages students to engage in topics of interest with a critical lens and to curate research from reliable sources at a pace and with the guidance appropriate for high school students, all while working towards giving a compelling verbal presentation. We believe these skills are invaluable assets for students, not just as they enter collegiate environments, but also as they enter the world and workforce.
Mt. Bethel Christian Academy Community,

I would like to invite you to be a part of one of MBCA's most important events for our seniors. We need judges from our community to participate in judging the Senior Thesis projects coming up this spring.

  • US 101 - Rescheduled Sep 5th

We have an important update regarding our upcoming US 101 – Upper School & Beyond event. Originally planned for this Friday, the day before the long weekend, we’ve received feedback that many of you may be traveling and unable to attend.

In an effort to respect your time and give all of our families the opportunity to participate, we are rescheduling US 101 to take place as part of our Upper School Open House on Friday, September 5. Rather than holding two separate events on different dates, we have decided that integrating Upper School 101 with our Open House will allow us to be mindful of your time while still providing the most comprehensive picture of the Upper School journey. This will allow you to hear directly from our high school students and recent graduates, ask questions, and gain valuable insight into the Upper School experience and beyond.

We will be sending additional details soon regarding the Open House schedule and how US 101 will be included in the itinerary. For now, we encourage you to mark 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 5 on your calendar. If you already plan to attend, you can RSVP at this link, and additional details will follow in another email. We look forward to seeing you there!
