Music

Music is such an integral part of a student’s healthy development. From Junior Kindergarten to fifth grade students are taught fundamental music elements.
These include music listening, music literacy, musical performance, and musical instruments. Students will also gain an appreciation of music history by studying a composer of the month and a piece of his or her music.

Music at the Academy encompasses a wide variety of areas. Worshipping God through music is an important part of the music classroom. Curriculum components include:

Kindergarten – second graders learn concepts such as steady beat, rhythm patterns, pitch, and melody through a variety of activities. Students study composers and instrument families. They also learn performance skills and are involved in either the Christmas or Spring Musical.

Third – fifth graders learn conducting, music reading, choral techniques, how to play the soprano recorder, and engage in the study of composers and instrument families. They, too, learn performance skills and are involved in either the Christmas or Spring Musical.
